The Bowerman Track Club competed in the USATF Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships over the weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The club had runners ranging from eight to 15 years old and sent more than 30 kids to compete in multiple age and gender divisions. The boys 11-12 year old team lead by Jeffery Rogers with a 21st place and All-American finish took home the national championship title with 106 points over Norco Elite Racing of the Texas region with 148 points. The boys had a tight pack of 18 second to win the national title, the first for a the 11-12 BTC boys. The other member of the team Luke Horne finished in 30th, Jack Bennett took 40th, Anders Beil at 45th, Ryan Schumacher was 47th and Jeremy Clark finished at 164th.
In addition to the boys national title the 13-14 girls finished third in a strong showing after taking home the national title a year ago. The girls only had one returning girl from the national title team, Alexis Kebbe who was able to improve on her 30th place finish and take home top 10 honors with a sixth place showing. In addition to Kebbe the girls had two other All-Americans, Sunitha Black took 16th and Kelsey Gripekoven was 18th.
Bowerman managed to get four top 10 team finishes with the Boys 13-14 and girls 9-10 both taking ninth place. The club also added a total of seven All-Americans to their strong team showing including the previously mentioned runners along with U8 girls Juliana Peters finishing 2nd and her teammate Emma Bennett getting 12th. In the girls 9-10 age division Juliana’s sister Kate Peters got her own honors with a blistering finish over the last 1200 meters to move up 9 spots and secure a 21st place finish for herself.
