Blue Lion middle school track takes 6th at Unioto

The 2011 WMS Boys Track season got underway Saturday when the Blue Lions traveled to Unioto High School for the Unioto Jr. High Invitational. The Blue Lions turned in a sixth place finish in an eight-team field.

Alec Wayne finished seventh in the high jump; Jarret Cash vaulted to a tie for fourth place; Logan Wilson placed fifth in the Long Jump; Skylar Hawk scored a sixth place finish in the shot, and Tyler Guyett finished seventh in the Discus.

Tye Smith earned a seventh place finish in the 100-meter dash; Zach Thomas finished sixth in the 200-meter dash. Wayne scored a sixth place finish in the 1600-meter run; Jonah Meehan scored sixth place in both the 110 and 200-meter hurdle races.

Cameron Smith also turned in impressive finishes in both hurdle events, according to coach Ryan Lynch.

The majority of the points for the Blue Lions were scored in the relay races.

The 4 x 800-meter relay team (consisting of Zach Potts, Branton Mitchell, Kyle Wilson, and Steven Willis) finished seventh.

Tobin Anderson, Cameron Hartshorn, Smith, and Thomas finished fourth in the 4 x 100-meter relay.

The 4 x 200-meter relay team (comprised of Cameron Myers, Meehan, Ian Edwards, and Thomas) finished a close second place.

The most impressive performance of the day, according to Lynch, came from the 4 x 400-meter relay team who won the event scoring 10 points. Hartshorn, Myers, Edwards, and Logan Wilson teamed up for that gutty performance.

All in all, it was an impressive effort by our somewhat depleted team, Lynch commented. A few of our key athletes were away on Spring Break for this meet. This is going to be an impressive team.
