Cope girls, Haughton boys win middle school track and field meet
The second Bossier Parish middle school track and field meet of the season produced results identical to the first — at least in the team competition.
Haughton swept the boys’ seventh- and eighth-grade titles, and Cope won the combined girls’ title in the Benton/Rusheon meet Wednesday at Benton.
The girls’ division was close. Cope scored 140 points to 135 for runner-up Haughton. Benton finished third with 64. Haughton easily won the eighth-grade boys’ division with 159 points. Elm Grove was second with 77.5 and Benton third with 57.5.
The seventh-grade division was a little closer. Haughton scored 132 points, and Cope finished second with 98. Benton was third with 77.
Haughton’s Ethan Pease and Antonio Woodfork, and Cope’s Jamonte Foster were double winners in the seventh-grade division.
Pease won the 1,600-meter run in 5:46.65 and the 800 in 2:28. Foster took the 100 in 11.69 and the long jump with a leap of 20 feet.
Woodfork won the 100 hurdles in 14.98 and and the high jump with a 5-4.
Haughton’s Javonte Woodard and Zach Smith were double winners in the eighth-grade division. Woodard took the 100 hurdles in 14.5 and the long jump in 19-4. Smith won the 1,600 in 5:05 .93 and the 800 in 2:21.22.
Haughton’s Valerie Taylor was the lone double winner in the girls’ division. Taylor won the high jump with a 4-8 and the long jump with a 15-6.
Other winners in the seventh-grade boys’ division included Haughton’s Jacovion Ware (200, 24.47), Benton’s Cody Durbin (discus, 87-1.5) and Haughton’s John Byargeon (shot put, 38-7). Haughton won the 4X100 relay in 49.61 and Cope won the 4X400 in 4:33.88.
Other winners in the eighth-grade boys’ division included Haughton’s Larron Lott (100, 11.23), Elm Grove’s Dante Williams (400, 58.86), Cope’s Frank Winn (200, 24.69), Haughton’s Mike Harris (high jump, 5-1), Benton’s Jordan White (discus, 126-1) and Benton’s Mitchell Matthews (shot put, 41-5). Haughton won the 4X200 relay in 1:42.38 and the 4X100 in 49.12. Elm Grove won the 4X400 in 4:09.75.
Other winners in the girls’ division included Cope’s Katie McKay (1,600, 5:59.30), Haughton’s Kenyatta Wilson (100 hurdles, 18.99), Cope’s Ashley Faith (800, 2:39.61), Haughton’s Tyonna Ashton (100, 13.05), Cope’s Kei McCoy (400, 1:06.30), Cope’s Courtney Randall (200, 27.97), Benton’s Yancey Cox (discus, 77-10) and Cope’s Milsquala Frank (shot put, 28-6). Cope swept the three relays, winning the 4X200 in 1:54.17, the 4X100 in 55.44 and the 4X400 in 4:37.28.
Repeat winners from last week in the girls’ division included McKay, Taylor, Faith, Ashton, Frank, McCoy and Cox. Repeat winners in the seventh-grade boys’ division included. Woodfork, Foster and Byargeon. Smith, Williams and Winn were repeat winners in the eighth-grade division.
