YAROOMBA'S Brigitte Fischer will tackle the Junior (under 20) International Triathlon Union selection races in an attempt to qualify for the world championships, after claiming a thrilling victory in her division at the Australian Triathlon Championships last week.

The promising 15-year-old snared her second successive national title by winning the intermediate female race at Redcliffe.

The result has reinforced her reputation as one of the country's top triathlon talents.

Fischer finished in a time of 52 minutes and 35 seconds, a solitary second ahead of Western Australia's Jaz Hedgeland.

Fischer, a Matthew Flinders College student, was one of a handful of Coast competitors at the championships.

Among others were Luke Farrell (sixth place in the senior boys division) and Matthew McCoster (ninth place in the intermediate male division).
