Anna Maxwell of San Lorenzo Valley High ran away with the Mile this afternoon at the prestigious Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California.
Only Bethan Knights of Northwood made a concerted effort to stay with three-time Foot Locker Finalist, who is coached by former Centennial star Rob Collins. Anna’s time was an impressive 4:43.27 for this time of the year.
Sarah Robinson of Henry Gun followed in a distant second with 4:48, while Fiona O’ Keeffe of Davis took third in 4:49. Knights, taxed by her effort to stay with the leader, still ran a very fine 4:50 and Christina Aragon of Billings (Montana) garnered fifth with 4:53. Others of notable finishers were Emma Abrahamson of La Costa Canyon, who ran 4:59, and Julia Maxwell of Branson School, who placed eighth in 5:01.
Frederick Huxham of Redwood annexed the Boys’ Mile with a mark of 4:15.80 and won by less than a second over Garrett Migliozzi of Nevada Union. Steve Sum of Saratoga claimed third in 4:17.37 to earn a two-tenths of a second margin over Steven Grolle of Sonora. Justin Robison of Lynnbrook was the only other runner to get under 4:20 as he finished fifth.
