State champs Dunbar, Francis still swiftest
BARTLETT INVITATIONAL: Kodiak, Juneau speedsters claim individual titles.

Trevor Dunbar and Leah Francis picked up where they left off last year, winning individual titles Saturday at the Bartlett Invitational cross country meet.

Dunbar and Francis, who won their second straight state championships last year, opened this year's season by collecting easy victories.

Dunbar, of Kodiak, topped the boys 5-kilometer race in 15 minutes, 42.8 seconds -- more than 13 seconds ahead of Aaron Fletcher of South.

Francis, of Juneau, won the girls race in 18:38.6, more than a minute ahead of Chloe Ivanoff of Kodiak.

Kodiak put three boys in the top six to claim the team title over Grace Christian, and Grace took the girls team title behind the 5-6 finish of Holly Kopp and Mariah Applegate.

A dozen teams competed in the meet.
