Silver Cheetahs Excel in Knoxville

Twelve-year-old Jade Stokes, a member of the Savannah Silver Cheetahs track and field club, broke an age-group record over the weekend at the AAU Southern Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Tennessee.

Stokes, competing in the 12-and-under/Midget Girls' division, won the shot put with a heave of 32 feet, 9.75 inches. She also took fourth in the Midget Girls' long jump with a leap of 13.75 feet.

Also winning a title was Leron Pace, who won the 16-and-under/Intermediate Boys' 3,000-meter race/walk with a time of 22 minutes, 26.43 seconds. Pace also was eighth in the shot put with a best of 26-8.75.

Other results for the Cheetahs were: 10-and-under/Bantam Boys (long jump-7. Tariq Khalil, 10-0); 14-and-under/Youth Girls (long jump-6. Ndidi Doe, 13-11.50; 55-meter hurdles-6. Ndidi Doe, 10.92; high jump-6. Jocelyn Haynes, 3-6); 16-and-under/Intermediate Girls (shot put-6. Brionca Walker, 24-0; 55 hurdles-3. Brionca Walker, 9.42); 17-and-under/Young Women (3,000-3.
