Special to Record Publishing Co. Shaun Crawford, a student at Dodge Intermediate School, won three gold medals at the 2008 Amateur Athletic Union National Junior Olympic competition, which concluded Aug. 2 at Eastern Michigan University.

Shaun Crawford, who will be a sixth-grade student at Dodge Intermediate School this fall, won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.11 seconds at the 2008 Amateur Athletic Union National Junior Olympic competition, which concluded Aug. 2 at Eastern Michigan University.

Shaun just missed the national record time of 25.04 seconds. He also won the 400 (58.48) and placed second in the 100 (12.51), earning him two gold medals and a silver medal in the sub-midget division.

Shaun, 10, won three gold medals at the AAU National Indoor track and field championships earlier in the season.

At that meet, he won the 55 and 200 races, along with the long jump with record performances.

Shaun runs for the West Akron Track Club. He is the son of John and Sabrina Crawford and is coached by Denise Brandon, Regina King-Williams and Mike Young.

The 2008 AAU National Junior Olympic competition featured more than 10,000 track athletes from across the United States.

Each of the athletes had to place in the top four in their respective regions to have an opportunity to advance to the nationals.
