DETROIT — The New Braunfels Stallions track and field team broke some records and brought home some hardware from the Motor City.
Alexis Alexander earned a national medal this past week at the AAU Junior Olympics, and Stallions heptathlete Drue Ewald finished one spot away from a medal. Another New Braunfels runner set a season record at the Olds-Marshall Track on the Eastern Michigan University campus.
“I am very proud of each athlete,” Stallions coach Ray Alexander said of the foursome that traveled. “They all had great seasons.”
Alexander, who specializes in middle-distance running, medaled for her eighth-place finish in the young women’s 1,500 meters. Alexander finished at 5 minutes, 12.41 seconds; Britney Kott of Millville, N.J., finished at 4:48.55 to win the event.
Alexander, a senior-to-be at New Braunfels High School, also qualified for the 800 meters — but she skipped the event in order to focus on the 1,500, Ray Alexander said.
Ewald missed a heptathlon medal by one spot as he took ninth out of 33 competitors.
Amber Cunningham ran a season-best 2:33.28 in the sub-youth 800-meter dash. She placed 23rd out of 54 runners.
Myles Moore, who had the most on his plate for the meet, ran 13.51 seconds in the 100-meter dash to finish 52nd out of 67 runners. Pflugerville’s Aric Scott won the gold with a time of 12.19 seconds.
Moore finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.67 seconds to finish 52nd out of 61 runners, behind Christopher Howell of Milwaukee, who finished at 18.69 seconds.
Moore ran a 2:46.59 in the 800 to finish 62nd out of 69 runners. Kenneth Selmon of Kennesaw, Ga., won the event with a time of 2:13.84.
