After 60 days away from Bassmaster Elite tournament fishing, Arroyo Grande’s Jared Lintner jumped back into competition with one of his best starts this season.
Lintner brought a 16-pound, 15-ounce five-fish limit to the scales on Thursday, opening day at Lake Erie and the Niagara tributaries. His effort put him in a tie for 30th place with former Californian Gary Klein.
It was the second best start Lintner has had in his third year on the Elite pro tour. In event No. 3 at Falcon Lake in Texas, he opened with a 26-11 bag and followed up with 25-1 and 19-2 limits for a 71-8 total weight. It was only good for a 47th place finish as prodigious limits were weighed all four days. A record 132 pounds won it and the 12th place angler had 108 pounds for 20 fish.
This is the next to last event on the 2008 schedule. His best opening-round performance was a tie for 17th at the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes back in March, while his best finish was a tie for 22nd place at Clarks Hill Lake in Georgia in May.
The 104-man field will be pared to 50 after today’s fishing. Making the cut guarantees at least a $10,000 check. Thus far he has earned $61,250.
