Forty-five from West VA going to AAU

Forty-five West Virginia youths qualified for the AAU track and field national championships at this past weekend's Region 6 championships in Canton, Ohio.

The Striders qualified a two-day total of 34 competitors for nationals with an additional 11 West Virginia youths posting marks that will allow them to compete July 23-Aug. 2 in Detroit.

Hunter LeMaster (13 years old), Alex Howden (14), Drew Goodman (15-16) and Nathan Lafata (17-18) each finished first in the pole vault in their respective age divisions for the Striders. Jontavese Brown (7-8 boys) and Jovonne King (17-18 girls) won the 100- and 200-meter events, respectively.
