Three more Napa Track Club competitors qualified at the Region 14 meet on Sunday for the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships, all three recording personal bests in their events.

The regional meet at Granada High School in Livermore featured the top young track and field competitors from Northern and Central California and Western Nevada. The top three finishers in each event qualified for the nationals, which will be July 22-27 in Omaha, Neb.
Kyle Beaver continued his outstanding season by qualifying in all three of the events in which he was entered in the 11-12 age division.

The Silverado Middle School student dominated in the shot put, crashing through the 40-foot barrier for the first time with a winning throw of 42 feet, 5 inches.
Beaver advanced in the discus with a second-place toss of 97 feet, 6 inches, also a personal best. He also qualified in the high jump with a third-place leap of 4 feet, 7 inches.

Brendan Cardey recorded another impressive throw in the 13-14 boys javelin. Although he was one of the youngest competitors in his age group, he still took third place with a personal-best toss of 114 feet, 11 inches.
Sanjay Gajiwala, competing in the 17-18 young men’s division of the 1,500-meter run, trimmed nearly seven seconds off his previous best performance, finishing third in a time of 4 minutes, 25.43 seconds.

Napa Track Club qualified a total of seven athletes to move on to Nebraska. Three others earned entry on Saturday — Taylor Hollabaugh in the 1,500-meter racewalk and brothers Dominic and Mario Giovannoni in the high jump. Dominic Giovannoni had qualified for the finals in the decathlon at an earlier meet, as had Tatum Souza in the girls heptathlon.

Two other members of the club set new personal records at the meet, but did not finish in the top three.

Claire Miller broke the 30-foot barrier in the triple jump for the first time with a mark of 30 feet, 31⁄2 inches, and Chris Bozzini tossed the javelin 99 feet, 4 inches for a new personal-best mark.
