Simplot Games Wrap Up 1.19.2006

POCATELLO, Idaho- Wendell Lawrence of Boise and Sarah Cardinal of Blackfoot each had a huge year at Simplot Games. They led many successful Idaho athletes to the awards stands.

 

Lawerence topped a talented triple jump with a new personal record, 47? 9 ??. A senior from Boise, Lawrence was the only competitor over 46 feet before he uncorked his final jump.

 

Cardinal placed second in both the girl?s Shot Put and Weight Throw. Cardinal beat her personal best in the shot put by two feet for a final distance of 45? 1 ??.

 

Pole Vault

In the girl?s pole vault Annalise Bertleson of Boise?s Team YMCA Idaho placed second at 11? 9?; her teammate, freshman Chelsea Barr, took 5th place.

 

All Idaho Relay

For the first time ever Simplot featured a 4x200 meter relay event. This event offered Idaho Team?s to compete head-to-head with each other before the outdoor season begins.

 

Athletes were excited to be given this special treatment.

 

The winning girl?s team was Pocatello?s Portneuf Track Club. Team members are Elizabeth Wahl, Camille Marchand, Sunny Katsilometes, and Julie-Ann Overrocker.

 

The winning boy?s team was Kimberly Track. Team members are Caleb Hopwood, Tyson Anderson, Jared Andreas, and Brody Miller.

 

High Jump

The girl?s high jump was a huge event for Idaho athletes. Sydney Wendt placed 2nd at 5? 5?. Wendt is a senior from YMCA Team Idaho in Boise. Teammate Kaysee Brunel placed 3rd with a height of 5? 1?.

 

From Burley Track Club, Diana Blauer tied for 4th place at 5?1?.

 

The boy?s high jump was also a great event for Idaho. Eric Follett placed 2nd clearing the bar at 6?5?.  Followed closely at 6?3? by 3rd place Brandon McNew from Donnelly Track Club out of Twin Falls.

 

1600 Meter

Chio Lopez of Pocatello?s Portneuf Track Club took 3rd place with a time of 4:25.74

 

3200 Meter

Karleigh Gempler of YMCA Team Idaho placed 3rd in the girl?s 3200-meter run. Her time was 11:31.67

 

Boys Shot Put

Andy Naftz from Indian Track Team of Pocatello placed 6th in the boy?s shot put throwing 49?.
