POCATELLO, Idaho-A pair of twins from the Spanish Fork Track Club led a strong showing by Utah Athletes who competed at the Simplot Games at Idaho State University?s Holt Arena on Friday.
Nachelle Stewart and Natalie Stewart from Spanish Fork, Utah qualified for both the women?s 400-meters and 200-meters finals on Saturday. The 400 proved to the best event for the pair, as Nachelle placed second with a time of 56.78 seconds, and Natalie placed fourth with a time of 59.90.
Three athletes qualified for the 3200 women?s final on Saturday. Kim Quinn will be the one to beat as she set the best time in the qualifier heats with a time of 11:36.60. Melissa Baird, of Payson Track, and Natalie Haws of Davis Track Club will join Quinn in the final on Saturday.
Also leading the women charge from Utah is Samantha McMillian of Judge Memorial. She finished third in the women?s 800 qualifier heats, and will look to contend for the title on Saturday.
Candice Eddy of Davis Track Club led the way in the women?s 1600 with a time of 5:13.04 in the qualifier heats.
In the women?s 1600 sprint medley the team from the Spanish Fork Track Club placed second in the qualifier heats with a time of 4:18.16 to qualify for Saturday?s final. Also in Saturday?s final from Utah are, Davis Track Club, Judge Memorial and Timpview Thunderbirds.
On the men?s side, Utah placed six shot put throwers in the finals, out of only 12 throwers moving on to Saturday?s final round. Brothers Spencer Hall and Bryce Hall of Davis Track Club, Stephen Paea of Timpview Thunder, Aaron Best of Hurricane Tigers, and Colin Boevers and Sean Sellwood of Judge Memorial, all moved on to the throw in Saturday?s final.
Utah sent three teams to the finals on Saturday in the men?s1600 sprint medley. Skyline Eagles Track Club placed second in the qualifier heats with a time of 3:43.29. Timpview Thunderbirds and Davis Truck Club moved on to join Skyline Eagles Track Club on Saturday.
Leading Utah runners in the men?s 3200 final on Saturday will be Patrick Hall and Jared Ward, both of Davis Track Club. Hall qualified with at time of 9:54.28. Ward qualified with a time of 10:07.33.
Steve Hart from Timpanogos Track will lead a strong contingent of Utah sprinters in the men?s 400 on Saturday. Hart had the seventh best time in the qualifier round, with a time of 51.98. Ben Bradshaw of Skyline Eagles Track Club, Jonny Oliver of Timpanogos Track, and Isaac Robison of Track will also contend for a top place finish in Saturday?s final.
