County sprinters triumph
TULARE -- Lemoore's Dominique Whittington tacked on a pair of championships, and Hanford West's Vontrail Love also won an individual title Saturday in the AAU Region 13 Championships at Bob Mathias Stadium.
Whittington and Love are part of the five-member USA Wings team, which also consists of Jeff Ikeno, Chris Lopez and Michael Steward of Visalia.
The squad came up with four victories Saturday while competing against clubs from as far south as Bakersfield, as well as some from the Bay Area.
Lemoore High sophomore-to-be Whittington won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in the intermediate (14-15) girls division.
Whittington, who claimed a 400 dash championship on Friday, captured the 100 in 12.5 and the 200 in 25.7.
Love, who'll be a senior at Hanford West in the fall, won the 100 in 11.10. He also teamed with Ikeno, Lopez and Stewart for a first-place time of 42.8 in the 400 relay.
Lopez was second in the 100, in 11.18, and Steward finished second in the high jump.
The Wings' male athletes all competed in the young men's (16-17) age division.
Next up for the Wings will be the West Coast AAU Junior Olympics, which are scheduled for July 11-12 at Hugh High in Reno, Nev.
