California
In meet, which will be remembered for many years, Christine Babcock of Irvine Woodbridge lowered her National Federation of High School Association record in the girls' 1,600 meters. Babcock, who has signed with Washington, broke her NFHS record of 4:35.57 (which was established eight days earlier at the Southern Section meet) by finishing in 4:33.82.
In the boys' 1,600 German Fernandez won in a time of 4:00.29. Later in the meet Jordan Hasay, who had won state titles in the 3,200 as a freshman and sophomore, finished in 9:52.13, bettering the previous state record of 9:52.80 set in 1996 by Kim Mortensen of Thousand Oaks. She was shadowed by Laurynne Chatelat who finished in 9:52.51.
Fernandez then stunned the crowd with his performance in the 3,200 with an 8:34.23 clocking smashing the NFHS record by nearly eight seconds. In the 400 freshman Akawkaw Ndipagbor ran 53.35 while Tara Richmond won the high jump with 5-11
Connecticut
Donn Cabral of Glastonbury won the 8:56.35 two-mile edging Willie Ahern. by a second.
Indiana
Matt Terrell of Ben Davis Terrell repeated as champion in the 200 with a 21.23.
Bob Belden of Decatur Central won the discus with a throw of 185 ‘ 8". Robert Gardner of Wallace caught Pike's Josh Lee in the final meters of the 400to win with 47.72. Lee ran 47.93.
New York
Elizabeth Mott of New Rochelle won the Division I 400-meter hurdles at the Section 1 state qualifier at Suffern High in 58.4 seconds. It’s , the fastest prep time in the US this year.. Shelby Greany won the 2,000 steeplechase in 6:56.8.
Michelle Quimby of Shenendehowa won the pole vault at the girls' Class A Track and Field Championships on Wednesday afternoon at Queensbury High School & set a Section II record with a vault of 11’ 11". She actually was credited with 11’ 7". Hannah Davidson of Saratoga won three events: the 1,500M, 3K and 400 hurdles. Morgan Mueller of Queensbury won the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a 7:19.83 edging Saratoga’s Erica Howes.
North Dakota
Laura Roesler of Fargo South won the 800M with a time of 2:04.96 at the Dakota Elite Meet.
Oregon
Border Duel
Michelly Foley of Crook County won the 3K with a time of 10:06.8, Carlone Austin of Wa. Won the 800M in 2:14.87 & Catherine Street of Oregon took the pole vault with 11’9". Taylor Morgan of Central Catholic claimed the 3K with a 8:39.70 & Thomas Juhala of Oregon vaulted 16’ 0".
Pennsylvania
Chanelle Price flew in the 800 again with a 2:02.90 . | Carly Seymour of Central Cambria repeated as AA 3200 champ in with a meet record 10:31.85. Neely Spence ran a 4:44.85 to win the AAA girls 1600.
Texas
Marquise Goodwin of Rowlett was named Athete of the Year after winning long jump (26-1 ½ ) & triple jump (50-0 ½ ). He also was part of the 4x100 relay (40.26) and placed 2nd in the 100 (10.38). His 4 X 200 relay placed 3rdwith 1:26.15. Skylar White of DeSoto was named the Female Athlete of the Year after winning both the shot put & discus.
Washington
Brooks Meet of Champions
Becca Friday of Washington won the 1600 with a time of 5:02.99 to defeat Lisa Olander & Kayleigh Tyerman (Crater). Marzell Jenkins of Washington won the 400 with a 48.95 5 edging Devon Smith who ran 49.28. Seth Bridges of Washington won the 3200 with 9:19.38. Shanie Bushman of Washington won the pole vaut with a vault of 11’ 6".
