Unterreiner XC runner of the year

Gig Harbor High School senior Miles Unterreiner was recently named the 2007-08 Gatorade Washington Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

The honor adds to the long list of accomplishments for Unterreiner, who won the Class 4A individual state championship in November and later competed in the Foot Locker National Championship race.

The Gatorade award honors the top high school student-athletes in 12 varsity sports for their athletic excellence. With the award, Unterreiner becomes a member of the inaugural Gatorade State Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year class and joins past recipients such as Peyton Manning, Emmitt Smith and Alex Rodriguez.

Additionally, Unterreiner is now eligible for the Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year award, which should be announced by the end of January.
