Q. What got you started in track and field?

Casey:  I like running long distance and I did a lot of races in Apple Hill so I thought it would be fun to be in a league.

Lauren: My Dad

Vinny: From me saying I was so fast and I could beat everyone.

Jordin: When I was younger I had a lot of energy and really enjoyed running.  I started in 6th grade and skipped 7th.  I really missed it and did it again in the 8th.

Hannah: It sounded like a lot of fun and my brother was on the team, so I thought I should try it.

Haley: Well my mom is a really good runner and I saw the people in the older grades doing and it looked like a lot of fun.

Q.  What?s your favorite event and why?

Casey: High Jump because I like to jump and it?s interesting how you have to bend your body and see how your body works.

Lauren: Long Jump because you feel like you?re flying for a few seconds.  Also the mile and the 880 because it takes a lot of devotion.

Vinny: Long Jump, 440 yard relay, and 100 meter dash.

Jordin: I really enjoy the Relay.  My team placed this year and we spent a lot of time practicing.

Hannah: Shot Put because it tests your strength and it shows how well you can do if you keep practicing.

Haley: I like the 220 hurdles because first of all I like hurdles and second of all it?s my favorite distance.

Q. What do you like most about your team?

Casey: It?s fun and most of my friends are on it.

Lauren: That we encourage each other through the whole season.

Vinny:  What I like about my team is they?re nice and they always tell you ?Good job?.

Jordin: I like the fact that it? small and we all work so well together.  We have a lot of fun but also know when it?s time to get serious.

Hannah: I like that no matter how you do on your team, the rest of the team always supports you and encourages you to do your best.

Haley: We all support each other and we usually don?t get mad, like on a relay team if someone makes a mistake, we don?t get mad if we lose.

Q.  What do you like best about PAL?

Lauren: That there?s so much good competition.

Jordin: I like the meets the best.  It?s a chance for the teams to put their practicing at work and compete.

Hannah: I like that everyone has a chance to be involved, and that it encourages people to try to their hardest.

Haley: I really like they have ribbons for 1st through 6th place so a lot of people get prizes.

Q. Do you have a role model in track and field?

Casey:  Michael Johnson.

Lauren:  Marion Jones.

Vinny: No I don?t because I don?t know any famous track or field people.

Jordin: I don?t really have a hero, but my sister did really well in long jump last year, so I try to follow in her footsteps.

Hannah: I don?t have a particular role-model, but I love a lot of the athletes because watching them makes you see what you could do if you put your mind to it.

Haley: Yes I do, his name is Thomas Blocker on my team.  He set the record for the PAL in the high jump and he?s also really fast in the 100.

Q. Do you want to run track or cross country in high school?

  1.

Casey: Yes, because I like track now.

Lauren: Yes, I do.

Vinny: Yes I do because I like the sport so much.

Jordin: Though I thoroughly enjoyed track these past years, I don?t see myself running in high school.

Hannah: I can see myself on the track team, because I would love having a chance to improve and enjoy being part of a team.

Haley: Yes it does because in the league here they make it fun because I really didn?t like running before but now I do.

Q. Have you ever been to a big high school or elite level track meet?

Casey: Yeah I have?Jesuit HS Meets and the Olympic trials in 2000.  I remember Maurice Greene winning the 100 meters.

Lauren: Yes, I?ve been to the Olympic trials, the NCAA Division 1 Meet, and the California State (High School) Meet.  There are a lot of good athletes.

Vinny: No

Hannah: I went to a Jesuit HS track meet.  I was surprised and impressed by how good the runners were, how far they could throw the shot put, and how well they could all jump.  It was fun to watch all of the teams just having fun doing something that they liked and that they were definitely good at.

Haley: No I have not but I plan to next year
