PONCE, PUERTO RICO........officials of Ponce announced today that they will be hosting the first ever "Worlds' Longest Throw" Championships. Never has there been a throwing Festival for athletes from around the world to come to Puerto Rico to see who can throw the farthest and actually set official world records for distance competition with the baseball and the turbojavelin.
FAPR Officials will use the IAAF age group youth to masters system. Tom Petranoff, developer of the competition says, "This will be a fun new experience for kids to try their skill .....and what a better place to do it than at the Paquito Montaner baseball stadium or on the beach in Ponce.....what we're doing with the Worlds Longest Throw Competition is to motivate fitness and reality competitions for all who want to try throwing events in track and field. Safe, fun and gets kids moving. WLT is Not only how far you can throw, but how much you can improve your skills and learn how to use your body to throw. We're writing the record book for the world and improving fitness and throwing awareness."
Maryor Fanscisco 'Ico' Zayas Seijo and the Ponce Hilton & Casino are preparing for the competion to take place on April 8-9th. "Everyone knows that baseball is big in Puerto Rico and Track & Field is also very popular. We appreciate the opportunity to host this competition and hope we get many Puerto Ricans to participate."
While in PR....Petranoff will also conduct a "Learn to Throw" clinic and teach school children how to throw the Turbojavelin....... on the grounds of Dr. Pila Hight Schools on a Throwing Facility built and founded by Luis Velez in 1970 which has benefited thousands of kids.
