Hi again! I was wondering, is it better to run fast for 1/2 a mile (5 minutes) or slower for longer--not covering as much distance? Also, what are some good runs to get my time way down in a few months?

I think right now, the best thing would be to alternate fast and long days. Twice a week, run half a mile as fast as you can, and on the other days, try to go 1.5-2 miles no matter how slow it takes you. Then you will be building both speed and endurance, with alternating hard and easy days. that is how I train! Another thing you can do is instead of doing the half mile fast, you can run one minute fast, followed by one minute easy, for as long as you can.
