This is a great and serious question. What I would suggest is that you always run with a friend or two -- a male friend, or several female friends. Even a well-trained dog -- one that can run with you, and serve as a deterrent to someone who may approach. Always let someone know where you are going especially if it is in a remote location, or if you are not really familiar with the trails. Don't run with an IPod or headphones of any type. Be aware of your surroundings. Use common sense always. Safety also includes hydrating and eating on your longer runs. Additionally, dressing for the weather -- what it is now and what it may become. |
