RECENT HIGHLIGHTS
In 2007, Ian established personal records for 1500 meters (twice) and 3000 meters and competed internationally in Europe this past summer. For the year, he was the 6th fastest American at 5000 meters with his 13:18.87 as the KBC Night of Athletics “B” winner.

A member of three World Championship teams (2005 track and 2005-06 cross country), in 2006, he won the Big Sur Half Marathon in 1:02:33, a course record and distance debut and the Thanksgiving Day Manchester Road Race to become the first U.S. male winner since 1993. In 2008, Ian will concentrate on indoor and outdoor track races as he prepares for the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon this summer.

As runner-up at the 2005 USA 5000 Meter Championship, he set a personal record of 13:15.33 to earn a trip to the World Championships in Helsinki, Finland.

HIGH SCHOOL
At Klamath Union High School in Oregon, Ian was a two-time state cross country champion, finished state runner-up in the 1500 and 3000 meters and his team won two state titles. The National Honor Society member finished third at the 1999 Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships in Orlando, Florida, and he was also a member of the jazz band.

COLLEGE
A 10-time All-American at Stanford, Ian had an outstanding collegiate career. In 2005, he won the NCAA 5000m indoor title and was the NCAA 5000m outdoor runner-up to teammate Ryan Hall. In 2004, Ian set a school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase with his 8:32.09 at the Payton Jordan U.S. Open, while his fourth place finish at the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships helped his Cardinal squad secure the team title. In addition, his freshman year he was the 2001 USA Junior 5000m champion.
